Further arrests in connection with drugs importation investigation – Hartlepool, County Durham

Officers from the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) have made two further arrests in connection with an ongoing investigation in to the importation of drugs.

A 48-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, both from Hartlepool, were arrested today (3/11) at an address in the town by SEROCU officers, with assistance from the National Crime Agency and the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit.

The man and woman were both arrested on suspicion of conspiring to fraudulently evade a prohibition on the importation of a class A drug contrary to section 1(1) of the Criminal Law Act 1977 and on suspicion of money laundering. They remain in police custody at this time.

The arrests are the latest in connection with an ongoing SEROCU investigation, closely supported by law enforcement partners. Three people were charged last month following the interception of a vessel off Falmouth on 14 October.
